You think my price seems high on this one? Well, then I would respectfully challenge you to find another D-28 Marquis in this condition and see if you can buy it for less.
On the other hand, if you wish you had a time machine and could go back 8 or 10 years and buy one of these in brand new condition, you're in luck here.
This 2015 Martin D-28 Marquis is 99.0% MINT condition and sounds amazing.
It also has what is possibly the best Adirondack top I've seen on any guitar.
This is the only guitar I've ever bought back after selling it to someone. Back in 2021, I foolishly sold it to a fellow up in Kentucky. This past December, he called me and said he was going to have to let it go, and would I like to buy it back? I told him absolutely yes. And now here I am foolishly listing it again .... I have that incurable disease commonly known as "GAS."
The D-28 Marquis has a number of "Golden Era" features including the "mod V" neck, the vintage long saddle, more aggressive scalloping of the x braces, a 1 3/4" nut and 2 5/16" string spacing.
I have owned several of the Authentic D-28s and I would rank this Marquis right up there with the best of them in terms of tone and volume.
This guitar has been played enough that the top is starting to break in, but the guitar is in unusually good condition and shows only negligible signs of wear. Frets are pristine and need nothing.
This guitar frets and intonates perfectly all the way up and down the neck. The action at the 12th fret measures .093" on the low E and .070" on the high E.
Adjustable truss rod works perfectly. Using my digital StewMac gauge, I measure only .004" of relief at the 7th fret. That is with the John Pearse medium gauge strings that are currently on it.
My personal preference on this guitar is to string it up with a light/medium set (.012, .016, .024, .035, .045, .056).
Comes in the original factory case. (photos of case will be added soon)
