1994 Martin HD-35

Custom 12-Fret

SOLD

For sale is this 1994 Martin “Custom” 12 fret HD-35 with a unique twist insofar as it has a solid headstock rather than the traditional slotted headstock.

The neck block is stamped “Custom” because this one was built before they started putting “Custom Shop” on the block.  Hank Williams, Jr. played one that looked exactly like this for many years.

Sitka top and 35 style appointments including 3-piece EIR back and sides, ebony bridge and fretboard, bound fretboard and Herringbone purfling.

1 7/8” nut width, 2 5/16” string spacing, 25.4” scale length.

Truss rod functions as it should and neck has minimal relief (.005”).

Plays and sounds great with perfect action (.095” bass, .075” treble).  Tall saddle so it could be lowered if desired.  No buzzing anywhere on the neck.

Big, deep, and rich 12-fret rosewood dreadnought sound.  Beautiful Sitka top with gorgeous color and grain.

It has been played and shows some minor wear, but overall it is VG+ condition especially for a 30+ year old guitar. Frets have been crowned and polished and have lots of life in them.

No dents, dings, or cracks.  Only minor swirls and typical signs of use.  It has one little lacquer chip on the top (see photo) about the size of a pencil tip eraser.  The binding has been repaired at some point in the past and looks great, except for one spot at the waist where some glue squeeze-out still shows.  I suspect it could be removed with the right sanding / polishing technique.  The nitro lacquer finish is still nice and glossy and has no checking or crackling anywhere.

It has some kind of pickup installed under the bridge plate, not sure of the make / model, but the installation is clean and professional looking, it works fine and has the volume control under bass side of the sound hole.

When I bought this guitar, it had gold plated Martin branded tuners with ebony buttons.  Very 90’s looking, if you know what I mean.

I replaced those with a brand new set of aged nickel Rotomatics and they look much better in my opinion.  I can include the gold ones if you want them.

Comes in black Martin hardshell case, probably original to the guitar but I don’t know that for certain.

No odors in the guitar or the case.  Smells like a 1990's Martin that has been kept in the case.
